Representatives from the Department of Fisheries of Thailand participated in a pilot project to develop the Training Program for the ASEAN GAqP in Malaysia
On 3 - 6 February 2020, Ms. Montira Thavornyutikarn, Head of Production Standard Control Group and Ms. Pattaraporn Jitanutarachote, Head of Production Standard Certification Group, Fisheries Commodity Standard System and Traceability Division, as the representative of the Department of Fisheries of Thailand participated in a pilot project to develop the Training Program for the ASEAN Good Aquaculture Practices (ASEAN GAqP) in Malaysia. In training, they have trained and understood among the ASEAN member states in preparation to encourage farmers in their countries to reach the ASEAN GAqP standards in the future. Discussion meeting between Department of Fisheries, Thailand with the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (SUHYUP)
On 4 February 2020, at 09.40 a.m. Mrs. Chuanpid Chantarawarathit, Senior Expert on International Fisheries Affairs, Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, Department of Fisheries (DOF), presided over a meeting to discuss with the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (SUHYUP). With the representative from the Korean side led by Mr. IM JOON TAEK, Chairman of the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, together with the relevant DOF officials to attend the meeting and provide information as well. In this session, The content of the meeting related to the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives has expressed interest in expanding overseas investment opportunities to Thailand that because Korea has the potential of fishery and exporting aquatic products. While Thailand has more than 200 million US dollars in fishery imports from Korea, it points out that Thailand imports more than exports to Korea, and most of them are tuna fish more than 60 percent. At the meeting, they exchanged information and an overview of Thailand's fishery trade. They also gave recommendations for seafood consumption, Species of aquatic animals that are processed into products in Thailand. Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives is a long-established cooperative, and it was established in 1962. It is the foundation of the Fisheries industry of the Republic of Korea and driving the country's competitiveness. The preparatory meeting for Lancang-Mekong Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology Cooperation Working Group Program in Wuxi, China
On 4 February 2020, at 1.30 p.m. Mr. Thaworn Jirasophonrak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, presided over the preparatory meeting for Lancang-Mekong Fisheries and Aquatic Ecology Cooperation Working Group Program within the framework of cooperation with Lancang-Mekong in Wuxi, the People's Republic of China, together with the relevant Department of Fisheries officials. The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Framework aims to exchange and share experiences, protection status, and fishery recommendations, including preserving aquatic animals of the Mekong River basin countries, consisting of China, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Department of Fisheries opens a platform for the tuna resource management to organize a workshop following international standards
Department of Fisheries by the Oversea Fisheries and Transshipment Control Division organized a workshop on "Capacity Building on Harvest Strategies" for the Department of Fisheries officers to develop knowledge and skills with an understanding of how to manage and conserve in tuna fisheries resources more efficiently. Mr. Bancha Sukkaew, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, said that "As the Delegation of the Department of Fisheries attended the meeting of the Technical Committee on Management Procedures (TCMP) in the Republic of India, 14-15 June 2019. In the meeting, a resolution was passed for the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) to conduct training in Management Strategy Evaluation (MSE) for IOTC member countries. By focusing on tuna fisheries resource management and biodiversity conservation in the areas beyond national jurisdiction, including supporting efficient and sustainable fishery management." He also said, "Thailand is one of the member countries that gives importance to the matter. Therefore it has organized a workshop program on Capacity Building on Harvest Strategies at the Department of Fisheries in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 21-22, 2020." For such a training course, invited speakers, Mr. Hilario from the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF), Mr. Dan Fu from the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), and speakers from the Department of Fisheries, to discuss relevant topics. Such as management strategy assessment (MSE) and fishery strategy process, also discussion on "Real examples" in the case of IOTC Bigeye tuna, IOTC management guidelines, and status of aquatic resources. Furthermore, they exchanged views on the use of indicators, interpretation of results, and the utilization of information efficiently also to maximize the benefit to the fishery resource management process and the Department of Fisheries officials involved in the operation. So that, to enhance the knowledge and understanding to the Department of Fisheries officials to be able to apply knowledge in such a fishery management strategy to further expand in the management of aquatic resources in Thailand. Cooperation between German International Cooperation (GIZ) and DOF on the data linkage through NSW
