On 4 February 2020, at 09.40 a.m. Mrs. Chuanpid Chantarawarathit, Senior Expert on International Fisheries Affairs, Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, Department of Fisheries (DOF), presided over a meeting to discuss with the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives (SUHYUP). With the representative from the Korean side led by Mr. IM JOON TAEK, Chairman of the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, together with the relevant DOF officials to attend the meeting and provide information as well.
In this session, The content of the meeting related to the Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives has expressed interest in expanding overseas investment opportunities to Thailand that because Korea has the potential of fishery and exporting aquatic products. While Thailand has more than 200 million US dollars in fishery imports from Korea, it points out that Thailand imports more than exports to Korea, and most of them are tuna fish more than 60 percent.
At the meeting, they exchanged information and an overview of Thailand's fishery trade. They also gave recommendations for seafood consumption, Species of aquatic animals that are processed into products in Thailand.
Korean National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives is a long-established cooperative, and it was established in 1962. It is the foundation of the Fisheries industry of the Republic of Korea and driving the country's competitiveness. With a mission to develop the local fishery industry and the fishing village, Enhance the economic, socio-cultural situation of fishermen, also to improve the quality of life, such as improving the livelihoods of fishers in the area and improving their living conditions.
