The training course on Technology Transfer for Produce Live Aquatic Feeds for Giant Butter Catfish (Silonia silondia)
On 17 February 2020, 9.30 a.m. Mr. Thaworn Jirasophonrak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, presided over the opening ceremony of the training course on Technology Transfer for Produce Live Aquatic Feeds for Giant Butter Catfish (Silonia silondia). The session was held at the Kuladam Meeting Room, 7th floor, Chulabhorn Building, Department of Fisheries, Bangkok, Thailand. Such training is a training project under the Tripartite cooperation framework between the Thailand-Japan-Myanmar to provide in-depth knowledge of Giant Butter Catfish (Silonia silondia) aquaculture technology for trainees who is an official of Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Afterward, they will be able to apply the knowledge gained from the training program to develop and transfer it to officials or farmers involved in the Republic of the Union. The meeting on the 3-year plan for the fishery cooperation project between Thailand and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste
On 13 February 2020, at 9.30 a.m., at the In-see Meeting Room, 4th floor, Chulabhorn Building, Department of Fisheries, Thailand, Dr. Vicharn Ingsrisawang, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries presiding over a meeting on the plan for fishery cooperation project between Thailand and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. The meeting proposes to develop the three-year plan in the areas of fisheries (2019-2021) and prepare to deliver to Thailand Internation Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, to proceed further. Thailand and Timor-Leste established diplomatic relations on 20 May 2002. Both countries have enjoyed close and cordial relations, spurred in part by Thailand’s development diplomacy through technical cooperation under the Thailand International Development Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. A meeting to discuss Drive Guidelines for compliance according to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) Import Rule of the United States
On February 11, 2020, at 9.30 a.m. at the YiSok meeting room, 2nd floor, Chulabhorn Building, Department of Fisheries, Mrs. Peralai Nuchmorn, Senior Expert in Marine Fisheries, Department of Fisheries chaired a meeting to discuss Drive Guidelines for compliance according to the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) Import Rule of the United States. The Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) was enacted on October 21, 1972. All marine mammals are protected under the MMPA. The MMPA prohibits, with certain exceptions, the "take" of marine mammals in U.S. waters and by U.S. citizens on the high seas, and the importation of marine mammals and marine mammal products into the U.S. (Reference: https://www.fws.gov/international/laws-treaties-agreements/us-conservation-laws/marine-mammal-protection-act.html) The MMPA defines harassment as "any act of pursuit, torment or annoyance which has the potential to either: a. injure a marine mammal in the wild, or b. disturb a marine mammal by causing disruption of behavioral patterns, which includes, but is not limited to, migration, breathing, nursing, breeding, feeding, or sheltering." Workshop on The authorities according to the Agreement on Port State Measures, during 11 - 20 February 2020 at SEAFDEC, Samut Prakan, Thailand
Mr. Bancha Sukkaew, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, presided over the workshop on "The authorities following the Agreement on Port State Measures." The meeting aims to strengthen knowledge, understanding, skills, and experience in control and inspection of foreign fishing vessels following the Agreement on Port State Measures for 25 officers from various agencies of the Department of Fisheries, consisting of Fish Quarantine and Production Inspection Division, Fishing Control and Surveillance Division, Fishing and Fleets Management Division, and Oversea Fisheries and Transshipment Control Division. This training will be held during 11 - 20 February 2020 at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Samut Prakan, Thailand. APEC's Oceans and Fisheries Working Group (OFWG) meeting in Malaysia
On 6 February 2020 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, Dr. Pholphisin Suvanachai, Director of Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, together with representatives from the Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, and the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Division, including representatives from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, attended the meeting of the APEC Ocean and Fisheries Working Group: OFWG in Putrajaya, Malaysia during 6 - 8 February 2020. At this meeting, they acknowledged the operating results of the OFWG and jointly expressed their views on the fishery cooperation project proposal of APEC Members. They have also discussed with the APEC Secretariat in preparation for the OFWG meeting, which Thailand will host the APEC in 2022. The meeting of WTO Negotiations on fisheries subsidies of the Negotiating Group on Rules in Geneva, Switzerland
On 3 - 8 February 2020 in Geneva, Switzerland, the delegation of Thailand led by Mr. Bunchong Chumnongsittathum, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, along with Mr. Thaworn Thanjai, Director of Fisheries Development Policy and Strategy Division, Department of Fisheries, and officials from the Department of Trade negotiations, Ministry of Commerce, have participated in a meeting of Negotiations on fisheries subsidies of the Negotiating Group on Rules, World Trade Organization (WTO).
