On 12 November 2019 at 2.00 p.m., Mr. Thaworn Jirasophonrak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, presided over the meeting to discuss cooperation approaches between the Department of Fisheries (DOF) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standards with representatives from ASC and delegates on the responsibilities of DOF. In this session, To discuss cooperation approaches to supporting Thai shrimp farmers also develop and improve production to comply with certification standards to be widely accepted among end-buyers. Moreover, expanding distribution channels, including environmental awareness and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). ASC is an independent non-profit organization that is one of the leaders in the promotion of aquaculture standards. With determination to participate in discussions and support farmers in Thailand to proceed more efficiently. Besides, the ASC is a private standard that has been accepted by buyers and consumers around the world. Mr. Mesak Pakdeekong, Director-General of DOF, joined to discuss Enhancing Fisheries Cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Fiji
On 12 November 2019 at 9.00 a.m., at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Alongkorn Ponlabut, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, welcomed the Minister for Fisheries Commander Semi Tuleca Koroilavesau, Republic of Fiji. On this occasion, Mr. Mesak Pakdeekong, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, joined to discuss Enhancing Fisheries Cooperation between 2 countries under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Fisheries Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand and the Ministry of Fisheries, Republic of Fiji. Mr. Alongkorn Ponlabut said, "Thailand is pleased to support shrimp farming and supporting the laboratory for water quality analysis and aquatic animal disease laboratory to promote food security in the Republic of Fiji." He also said that Thailand and the Republic of Fiji could cooperate in investments in tuna fishing or other sea fisheries. Including the Thailand side that gave importance to the Pacific Islands countries because of being a source of aquatic resources, especially tuna, which Thailand had imported more than 7 hundred thousand tons per year. Therefore, they should work together to combat IUU fishery to maintain sustainable fishery resources in the future. Mr. Bunchong Chumnongsittathum, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, led the delegation of the Department of Fisheries attended The 42nd Meeting of the SEAFDEC Program Committee (42PCM) and The 22nd Meeting of Fisheries Consultative Group of The ASEAN – SEAFDEC Strategic Partnership (22 FISHERIES CONSULTATIVE GROUP: FCG – ASSP). The meeting was held on 11 - 15 November 2019 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The 42PCM meeting aimed to determine the outcome of projects/activities of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC ) and its member countries conducted in the past year/ongoing projects/projects in the future. To achieve sustainable fisheries and aquaculture for food security and nutrition, reducing poverty and the well-being of the population in the region. Including promoting trade and compliance with regulations for aquatic animals and aquatic products in the region according to marketplace needs. The 22FCG-ASSP meeting was aimed to discuss with member countries about the progress and success of fishery operations conducted under the implementation mechanism of the FCG ASEAN and SEAFDEC. On 11 - 14 November 2019 in Rakhine State, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Mr. Thaworn Jirasoponrak Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries Led a group of civil engineers, civil works technicians, and fishery biologists to visit the area and prepare the construction of shrimp farming demonstration center in Rakhine state, according to the Project Management Committee of the Union of Myanmar. Mr. Bunchong Chumnongsittathum, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, attended the opening ceremony of the International Scientific Conference on The 2nd Aquatic Animal Epidemiology Conference (AquaEpi II - 2019), also gave the opening remarks to welcome the honor attendees all over the world. The meeting was held on 4 - 6 November 2019 at the Grand Ballroom, Amari Hua Hin Hotel, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand. It consists of a special lecture on various topics such as (1) Going forward of aquaculture in Asia in next decade, keynote speaker by Dr. Robins Pharr McIntosh, (2) Application of biosecurity in Aquaculture, keynote speaker by Dr. Edgar Brun. Also, research presentation, both oral and poster presentations on Aquatic Animal Epidemiology. Besides, the Department of Fisheries also co-hosted the evening reception on 4 November 2019.
