Mr. Mesak Pakdeekong, Director-General of DOF, joined to discuss Enhancing Fisheries Cooperation under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Fiji

On 12 November 2019 at 9.00 a.m., at the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Alongkorn Ponlabut, advisor to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, welcomed the Minister for Fisheries Commander Semi Tuleca Koroilavesau, Republic of Fiji. On this occasion, Mr. Mesak Pakdeekong, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, joined to discuss Enhancing Fisheries Cooperation between 2 countries under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Fisheries Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand and the Ministry of Fisheries, Republic of Fiji. 


Mr. Alongkorn Ponlabut said, "Thailand is pleased to support shrimp farming and supporting the laboratory for water quality analysis and aquatic animal disease laboratory to promote food security in the Republic of Fiji."

He also said that Thailand and the Republic of Fiji could cooperate in investments in tuna fishing or other sea fisheries. Including the Thailand side that gave importance to the Pacific Islands countries because of being a source of aquatic resources, especially tuna, which Thailand had imported more than 7 hundred thousand tons per year. Therefore, they should work together to combat IUU fishery to maintain sustainable fishery resources in the future.
