Construction begins of the One Stop Service IUU Center in Samut Sakhon

SAMUT SAKHON (NNT) - The Department of Fisheries’ chief today presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a One Stop Service IUU Center in Samut Sakhon at 9 a.m.. The event took place on the construction site next to Samut Sakhon Provincial Fisheries Office in Mahachai district.
 

The Department of Fisheries’ Director General, Adisorn Promthep attended the ceremony to mark the start of construction of the One Stop Service Center against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, the first of its kind in Thailand.
 

Also participating in the ceremony was the Samut Sakhon governor; executives and delegates of the Department of Fisheries; the Samut Sakhon PIPO Center; the Royal Thai Navy; Samut Sakhon Fisheries Association; Samut Sakhon Chamber of Commerce, and local fishermen.
 

The Department of Fisheries chief said the One Stop Service IUU center will serve fishermen, companies, and government agencies in the processing and solving of illegal fishing cases. The 3-floor office building for the One Stop Service IUU Center will be constructed with an allocated central budget from the Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) of 35 million baht. General inquiries and port-in, port-out reports can be made on the first floor, while the second floor will host conference and reception rooms for CCCIF coordinators, and the third floor will be offices for the monitoring center, communications radio division, the fishing boat tracking division, and catches inspection division. The construction is expected to take one year, with the opening date expected in late 2020.
