ANAAHC to ASEAN

Scope of Contributions of ANAAHC to ASEAN

(a) The ASEAN Network on Aquatic Animal Health Centres (ANAAHC) shall coordinate the methods employed in ASEAN members for diagnosis of the diseases concerned, specifically by:

(1) Typing, storing and, where appropriate, supplying laboratory reference products of the relevant diseases to facilitate the aquatic animal disease diagnostic services in the ASEAN,

(2) Supplying standard sera and other reference reagents to the national reference laboratories in order to standardize diagnostic tests,

(3) Organizing periodic comparative tests (ring tests) of diagnostic procedures at ASEAN level with the national reference laboratories designated by the member country, in order to provide information on the diagnostic methods and the results of tests carried out in ASEAN;

(4) Training or re-training expertise on the relevant disease pathogen and other pertinent pathogens to enable rapid differential diagnosis;

(b) ANAAHC shall be a focal point for networking among national aquatic animal health agencies or laboratories to facilitate building up of diagnostic and health certification capabilities in ASEAN Member Countries.

(c) ANAAHC shall assist actively in the diagnosis of outbreaks of the relevant disease in ASEAN member countries by receiving pathogen isolates for confirmatory diagnosis and characterization;

(d) ANAAHC shall facilitate the training or retraining of experts in laboratory diagnosis with a view to harmonizing diagnostic techniques throughout the ASEAN;

(e) ANAAHC shall collaborate with the relevant OIE reference laboratories or NACA designated resource or reference laboratories with regard to exotic diseases;

(f) ANAAHC shall collate and forward information on exotic and endemic diseases that are potentially emerging in ASEAN aquaculture.

(g) ANAAHC will provide support to ASEAN members in the implementation of surveillance, contingency planning, import risk analysis, zoning, and other newly emerging subject areas of importance to aquatic disease control in ASEAN.
